Restoring volume, restoring contour
Volume loss is one of the main causes of deepening wrinkles, hollows, and contour changes in the face. The body's natural production of hyaluronic acid declines steadily from the late twenties, and the cumulative effect over decades shows up as flatter cheeks, deeper nasolabial folds, thinner lips, and shadowed under-eyes. Dermal fillers add hyaluronic acid back into the specific areas where it's been lost, restoring volume and softening the lines that volume loss creates.
Fillers and Botox are not interchangeable. Botox treats lines caused by muscle movement; fillers treat lines and contours caused by volume loss. Many clients use both together because they solve different problems. Filler results are immediate, develop further over the first two weeks as the gel integrates with surrounding tissue, and last six to eighteen months depending on the product and the treatment area.
The first step
What happens at a dermal fillers consultation?
Treatment starts with a consultation. The clinician will look at your face in three dimensions, talk through what you'd like to change and what you want to preserve, and recommend which areas (if any) would benefit from filler. Photographs are usually taken for reference. Different filler products have different gel structures, so the consultation is also where the product is selected to match the area being treated.
At Lucie Mé, consultations are complimentary. If filler isn't the right approach for the concern you're describing, you'll be told that and pointed toward whatever would actually help (sometimes Botox, sometimes skincare, sometimes nothing at all). There's no pressure to proceed on the day. Most clients use the consultation to ask questions, then book treatment after they've had a few days to consider what was discussed.

From consultation to result
The consultation
The first appointment is a planning conversation. The clinician will assess your face, talk through what you want to change, and explain which products and what placements they'd suggest. Photographs are taken for reference. Take as long as you need to decide. There's no commitment to proceed on the day.
The appointment
Treatment takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on areas treated. Most modern fillers contain lidocaine for built-in numbing; topical anaesthetic is also available for the more sensitive areas. The injections themselves feel like a quick pinch. Mild swelling is common immediately after and settles over two to four days.
The result
Volume change is visible straight away. The final look develops over the first two weeks as the gel integrates with surrounding tissue and any minor swelling resolves. Results last six to eighteen months depending on the product, the area, and how the body processes the filler. Hyaluronic acid fillers can also be dissolved with an enzyme injection if the result is not what you wanted.
Products we use
Hyaluronic acid fillers
The fillers used at Lucie Mé are gels made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule the body produces naturally. Different formulations are designed for different parts of the face. The product used depends on the area and the result wanted.
The most widely used HA filler range in Canada. Includes Volift and Volbella for lips and fine lines, Voluma for cheek and chin volume, and Vollure for nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Different gel densities for different anatomical needs.
The right product for each area is decided after the clinician has assessed your face. Often more than one product is used in a single session. For example, a denser gel in the cheek for volume, a softer gel in the lip for definition. Product selection and dose are confirmed before injection.

Lip enhancement
Lip filler at Lucie Mé
Lip enhancement is one of the most-requested filler treatments. The product used (typically Juvéderm Volbella or a softer HA gel) is designed specifically for the lip area, where the goal is usually definition and hydration rather than dramatic volume. A natural-looking result preserves your lip shape; the lips look like your lips, slightly fuller and more defined, not like someone else's.
First-time lip filler is typically a single 1ml syringe, sometimes split across two sessions a few weeks apart for a gradual build. Bigger volume changes are usually approached in stages so you can see and adjust as you go. Lip filler lasts six to twelve months on average; some clients metabolise it faster, particularly people who exercise frequently. Maintenance is once every six to nine months for most.
Common questions
What people ask about dermal fillers
How long do dermal fillers last?
Most modern hyaluronic acid fillers last between six and eighteen months. The exact duration depends on the product, the treatment area, and how quickly your body breaks down the filler. Lips and other mobile areas tend to metabolise filler faster, often lasting six to nine months. Cheeks, jawline, and other less-mobile areas hold filler longer, typically twelve to eighteen months. Some longer-lasting fillers like Juvéderm Voluma can last up to two years in the right placement. Filler doesn't disappear all at once; it integrates with surrounding tissue and slowly breaks down. Most clients book maintenance treatments before the previous filler is fully gone, which keeps results stable rather than starting from zero each time.
What's the difference between Botox and dermal fillers?
Botox and dermal fillers solve different problems and are often used together rather than as alternatives. Botox is a muscle relaxant that treats dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated movement (frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet). Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid gels that add structure and volume back to areas where it's been lost (cheeks, tear troughs, lips, lower face contours). Botox lasts three to four months; filler lasts six to eighteen. Botox works gradually over a week; filler results are immediate. Most clients treating multiple concerns use both. The consultation is where the right combination for your face is decided, and treatments can often be done in a single session.
How much do dermal fillers cost in Toronto?
Hyaluronic acid filler in Toronto is priced per syringe (typically 1ml). Total cost depends on the number of syringes needed, which depends on the area and result wanted. Lips usually need one syringe for first-time treatment; cheeks often need one to two; full lower-face contouring sometimes uses two to four. At Lucie Mé, the specific cost for your treatment is discussed at the complimentary consultation, after the areas and product have been agreed. There is.
Do dermal fillers hurt?
Most modern fillers include lidocaine in the gel, which provides built-in numbing as it's injected. For more sensitive areas like the lips, the clinician will usually apply a topical anaesthetic cream for 15 to 20 minutes before treatment. Most clients describe the sensation as a quick pinch or pressure, manageable without further numbing for cheek and jawline work. Lip injections tend to be the most uncomfortable, but the lidocaine takes effect within a few seconds of the first injection, so the rest of the treatment is significantly easier. Discomfort during and after treatment is brief and usually settles within a few hours.
Will I look "done" or fake?
No, not when the product, dose, and placement are chosen well. The "done" look comes from overfilled cheeks, lips that don't match the face, or filler placed without considering how the face moves and ages. Good filler work is invisible to anyone who doesn't already know you've had it. The aim is to enhance the structure you already have, not change it. At the consultation, the clinician will look at proportions across your whole face rather than treating areas in isolation, and recommend doses that produce a noticeable but natural result. If you want a more dramatic look, that's a conversation; "natural" is the default starting point.
How long is recovery after dermal filler?
Most clients return to normal activity straight after filler treatment. Some mild swelling and occasional bruising at injection sites is normal, particularly with lip filler, and typically settles within two to four days. For social or work events, plan two weeks between treatment and the event to allow for full settling. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, hot showers, saunas, and pressing on the treated areas for 24 hours after treatment. For lip filler specifically, also avoid lipstick or any pressure on the lips for the first 24 hours, and sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first night or two to reduce swelling.
Can fillers be dissolved if I don't like the result?
Yes, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down HA gel and allows the body to reabsorb it. The result is usually visible within 24 to 48 hours; sometimes a follow-up enzyme appointment is needed for stubborn or older filler. The ability to reverse HA fillers is one of the main reasons they're preferred over permanent or semi-permanent fillers (which we don't use). If you've had filler somewhere that doesn't look right, or you've changed your mind about the result, dissolving is a straightforward option. Discuss with the clinician at consultation; bring photos of the existing filler if the work was done elsewhere.
Are dermal fillers safe?
HA fillers have an extensive safety record across millions of treatments globally. The most common side effects are mild and temporary: swelling, bruising, tenderness at injection sites, occasionally small bumps that smooth out over a few days. Rarer complications include vascular events (filler accidentally injected into or compressing a blood vessel) which require immediate management; this is why filler should only ever be performed by a medically trained injector with knowledge of facial anatomy. Allergic reactions are uncommon with HA fillers because hyaluronic acid is a substance the body produces naturally. At Lucie Mé, all injectable treatments are performed by medically trained professionals.
At what age should I start dermal fillers?
There's no single right age. Most clients begin filler treatment in their thirties or forties, when volume loss in the face starts to become visible. Some start earlier for specific concerns: tear-trough filler for under-eye hollows that have always been a feature, lip filler at any age for definition. Some wait until their fifties or sixties, when more substantial volume loss has occurred. The trigger is usually a specific concern rather than an age milestone: shadows under the eyes, flattened cheeks, deepening folds, thin lips. The consultation is where to find out whether filler is what you actually need; sometimes a different treatment (Botox, microneedling, peels) is a better starting point.
Can I have dermal fillers if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No, fillers are not given to clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. There's no specific evidence of harm, but there's also no published safety data for HA filler during pregnancy or lactation, and filler treatment isn't medically necessary. The general position across Canadian cosmetic dermatology is to defer treatment until after pregnancy and breastfeeding have ended. Pregnancy also produces facial swelling and fluid changes that can make filler assessment difficult and results unpredictable. If you've recently had a baby and want to discuss timing, raise it at the consultation. Most clinicians wait at least three months after breastfeeding ends before treating, so the face has returned to its baseline.
How long after filler can I exercise?
Light activity is fine immediately after filler treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise (running, cycling, weights, yoga that involves inverted positions) for 24 hours after treatment. The reason is that increased blood pressure and body temperature can increase swelling and bruising at injection sites, and filler that's still settling can shift slightly. For hot yoga, saunas, and steam rooms, wait 48 hours. From day two, normal exercise can resume in full. If you've had filler in an area that gets compressed by exercise equipment or sports gear (lip filler before swimming goggles, cheek filler before a snorkel mask), give it longer to settle, ideally a week, so the product holds its shape.
Can men have dermal fillers?
Yes, and male clients are an increasing share of filler treatments. The most common male requests are jawline definition (a stronger, more angular jaw is often the goal), cheek structure, chin projection for profile improvement, and tear-trough filler for under-eye hollows that make the face look tired. Lip filler is also requested by some men, usually for subtle hydration rather than volume. Treatment principles are the same as for women, but the placement and dosing differ to preserve a masculine face shape: angular rather than rounded, structured rather than soft. At the consultation, the clinician will discuss what would and wouldn't suit your features.
